Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, some companions were traveling somewhere when a man came before them and said, “The chief of this tribe has been bitten (by a poisonous creature); does anyone among you know how to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing)?” So, one of those companions went and performed ruqyah on the chief, on the condition that he would be given some sheep. Then he brought those sheep back to his companions, who asked him, “With what did you perform ruqyah?” He replied, “I performed ruqyah with Surah al-Fatihah.” The companions said, “You have taken compensation for Allah’s Book?” They did not take anything from what was given to them as compensation. When these people came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), they informed him, “O Messenger of Allah! He has taken compensation for Allah’s Book.” That companion also informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of what he had done (i.e., that he had performed ruqyah with Surah al-Fatihah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “How did you know that it (Surah al-Fatihah) can be used for ruqyah?” Then he said, “The thing for which you are most entitled to take compensation is Allah’s Book.” This hadith has been narrated in Sahih.
