Abdullah bin Zaid narrates from his father, who reports from his grandfather: The two sons of Sayyiduna Umar, Abdullah and Ubaydullah, passed by Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari, who was serving as governor in Iraq. These two gentlemen were coming from the land of Iran. Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari said: "Welcome to my two nephews! If only I had something (the narrator is in doubt whether these are the words: If only I had the means), which I could give you!" However, I have this accumulated wealth; take it, buy goods with it, and when you go to Sayyiduna Umar, sell it. The profit will be yours, and the principal amount you will pay to Sayyiduna Umar." The narrator states: When these two gentlemen presented themselves before the Commander of the Faithful, he asked them: "Did Abu Musa do the same with the children of all the Muhajirin?" They replied: "No, he did not!" So Sayyiduna Umar said: "The Commander of the Faithful will not approve of this; he has given it as a qirad (investment partnership)."
