Abdullah bin Rabah narrates: We went to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the form of a delegation, and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with us. One of us would prepare food, then invite his companions. One day one person would do this, the next day another would do it. When it was my turn, I said: "O Abu Hurairah! Will you narrate a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the food arrives?" So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Khalid bin Walid as the commander of both the right and left flanks of the army, and appointed Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander of the other part, and made Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) the commander of the rear part of the army, which was in the lower part of the valley. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Abu Hurairah! Call the Ansar to me." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I called them, and they came quickly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ansar! When the riffraff of Quraysh come before you tomorrow, you must crush them. Our meeting will be at Safa (hill)." The narrator says: He gestured with his hand. The next day, whoever tried to come forward for combat, they killed him. Allah granted victory to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he came to Safa (hill) and stood upon it. Abu Sufyan came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah! If the Quraysh continue to be killed like this, after today there will be nothing left of Quraysh." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan will be safe, whoever closes the door of his house will be safe, and whoever lays down his weapons will also be safe." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some of the Ansar said: "Now love for his own people has been stirred in this man’s heart, and attachment to his hometown has developed." So revelation was sent down to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: "O Ansar! Did you say: Now love for his own people has been stirred in this man’s heart, and attachment to his hometown has developed? Remember! I am Allah’s servant and His Messenger. I migrated towards Allah and towards you. My life and my death are with you." The narrator says: They said: "O Messenger of Allah! We said this out of love for Allah and His Messenger." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah and His Messenger affirm you and accept your excuse."
