ثنا أَبُو رَوْقٍ ، نَا ابْنُ خَلادٍ ، نَا مَعْنٌ ، نَا مَالِكٌ . ح وَنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ ، نَا الشَّافِعِيُّ ، أنا مَالِكٌ . ح وثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ وَ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، قَالا : نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، وَأَبُو مُصْعَبٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، أَنَّ زَيْدًا أَبَا عَيَّاشٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ سَعْدًا " عَنِ الْبَيْضَاءِ بِالسُّلْتِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ : أَيُّهُمَا أَفْضَلُ ؟ ، قَالَ : الْبَيْضَاءُ ، فَنَهَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، وَقَالَ سَعْدٌ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، سُئِلَ عَمَّنِ اشْتَرَى التَّمْرَ بِالرُّطَبِ ، فَقَالَ : أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ ؟ ، فَقَالُوا : نَعَمْ ، فَنَهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ " .
Abdullah bin Zaid narrates that Sheikh Abu Ayash Zaid informed him that once Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about two types of wheat. Sayyiduna Sa’d asked them: “Which of these two types is better?” They replied: “The white one.” So Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade them from it. Sayyiduna Sa’d explained that he heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was asked about trading fresh dates for dry dates, the Prophet said: “Do dates decrease when they dry?” The people replied: “Yes!” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it.
