ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، وَابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، وَجَمَاعَةٌ ، قَالُوا : نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، نَا رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ بِي أَبِي يَحْمِلُنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " اشْهَدْ أَنِّي قَدْ نَحَلْتُ النُّعْمَانَ مِنْ مَالِي كَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : أَكُلَّ وَلَدِكَ نَحَلْتَ مثل الَّذِي نَحَلْتَ النُّعْمَانَ ؟ ، قَالَ : لا ، قَالَ : فَأَشْهِدْ عَلَى هَذَا غَيْرِي ، أَلَيْسَ يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ يَكُونُوا لَكَ فِي الْبِرِّ سَوَاءً ؟ ، قَالَ : بَلَى ، قَالَ : فَلا إِذَنْ ، وَقَالَ الْمَحَامِلِيُّ : أَكُلَّ بَنِيكَ نَحَلْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that my father lifted me up and brought me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “Bear witness that I have given Nu’man this much wealth from my property.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Have you given the same gift to all your children as you have given to Nu’man?” He replied: “No.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then make someone else a witness instead of me. Would you not like that all (i.e., your children) treat you equally well?” He replied: “Yes, indeed!” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then do not do this.” Muhamil says: (In the narration, these words are present:) “Have you given the same gift to all your sons?”
