ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، نَا ابْنُ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ تَفْسِيرِ : " الْعَارِيَةُ مُؤَدَّاةٌ ، قَالَ : أَسْلَمَ قَوْمٌ وَفِي أَيْدِيهِمْ عَوَارِي مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَقَالُوا : قَدْ أَحْرَزَ لَنَا الإِسْلامُ مَا بِأَيْدِينَا مِنْ عَوَارِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : الإِسْلامُ لا يُحْرِزُ لَكُمْ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمُ ، الْعَارِيَةُ مُؤَدَّاةٌ " ، فَأَدَّى الْقَوْمُ مَا بِأَيْدِيهِمْ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْعَوَارِي ، هَذَا مُرْسَلٌ وَلا تَقُومُ بِهِ حَجَّةٌ.
Ata bin Abi Rabah explained the words of the narration (a temporarily taken item will be returned) by stating that a tribe accepted Islam, and they had some items which they had taken from the polytheists for temporary use. These people said: Due to accepting Islam, these items of the polytheists which are with us or have come to us... When this was reported to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he said: "Islam does not permit you to take possession of anything that does not belong to you; a temporarily taken item must be returned." So then those people returned those items (of the polytheists) to them.
