Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), people used to buy and sell fruits. When the time for harvesting would come, the creditor would arrive to collect his debt, and the one who had to pay would say: This time the crop was afflicted by such-and-such calamity, this defect has occurred in it, and they would mention various kinds of disasters. Because of this, disputes began to arise among the people. When these disputes increased, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not make a transaction until the fruit has ripened and become ready." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this as advice, because there had arisen much disagreement among the people regarding this matter.
