Abdur Rahman bin Mut’im narrates: My business partner bought some dirhams on credit, so I said: “This is not correct.” The man replied: “I have sold this in the market and no one objected to it.” The narrator says: I asked Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib about this, and he stated that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to Madinah, we used to make such transactions, so the Prophet said: “There is no harm in transactions that are hand to hand, but those that are on credit are not permissible.” “You should meet Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam and ask him, for he is the most knowledgeable among us regarding matters of trade.” The narrator says: When I asked him about this, he also said the same thing.
