ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ، نا عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ، نا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، قَالَ : حَجَّ عُثْمَانُ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ أُخْبِرَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ " أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ نَهَى أَصْحَابَهُ عَنِ التَّمَتُّعِ بِالْعُمْرَةِ إِلَى الْحَجِّ ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ لأَصْحَابِهِ : إِذَا ارْتَحَلَ عُثْمَانُ فَارْتَحِلُوا ، قَالَ : فَأَهَلَّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ بِعُمْرَةٍ ، فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهُمْ عُثْمَانُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ عَنْكَ أَنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ أَصْحَابَكَ عَنِ التَّمَتُّعِ بِالْعُمْرَةِ ، يَعْنِي إِلَى الْحَجِّ ، أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَمَتَّعَ ؟ ، قَالَ : بَلَى . قَالَ سَعِيدٌ : فَلا أَدْرِي مَا أَجَابَهُ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا.
Saeed bin al-Musayyib narrates: Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) went for Hajj. On the way, it was conveyed to Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman had forbidden his companions from combining Umrah with Hajj, that is, from performing Hajj Tamattu’. So Sayyiduna Ali said to his companions: "When Sayyiduna Uthman departs, you also depart." The narrator states: Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions donned the Ihram for Umrah, and Sayyiduna Uthman did not say anything to them. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Uthman: "It has been conveyed to me about you that you have forbidden your companions from combining Umrah with Hajj, that is, from Hajj Tamattu’. Did you not hear about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he performed Hajj Tamattu’?" So Sayyiduna Uthman replied: "Yes." Saeed narrates: I do not know what Sayyiduna Uthman replied to them.
