Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Aqra’ bin Habis asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “Is performing Hajj every year obligatory?” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “No, rather performing Hajj once is obligatory. Whoever performs Hajj after that, it will be voluntary for him. If I had said, ‘Yes,’ it would have become obligatory, and if it had become obligatory, you would not have been able to act upon this command.”
