Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): What clothes should a person in the state of ihram wear? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "He should not wear a shirt, nor a turban, nor trousers, nor a cap, nor any garment that has been dyed with wars or saffron. He should not wear leather socks (khuffs), but if he cannot find sandals, then the ruling is different. Whoever cannot find sandals may wear leather socks, but he should cut them so that they come below the ankles." The narrator named Yusuf reports these words: "He should cut them so that they reach below the ankles."
