Hadith 2417

نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَرَّاحُ الضَّرَّابُ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا بُهْلُولُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَوْلِهِ : وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 97 ، قَالَ : قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا السَّبِيلُ ، قَالَ : " الزَّادُ وَالرَّاحِلَةُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates regarding the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Allah Almighty has said), "It is obligatory upon the people to perform Hajj of the House of Allah, for whoever has the means to reach it." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by 'means'?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Provision for the journey and a mount (ride)."
