بَابُ الشَّهَادَةِ عَلَى رُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِChapter on testimony for sighting the crescent

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا بُنْدَارٌ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَهْلَلْنَا هِلالَ رَمَضَانَ وَنَحْنُ بِذَاتِ عِرْقٍ ، فَأَرْسَلْنَا رَجُلا إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَمَدَّهُ لَكُمْ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ ، فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ " . وَهَذَا صَحِيحٌ.
Abu Bakhtari narrates: We saw the crescent of Ramadan while we were at Dhat 'Irq. We sent a person to ask Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), so he said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah spreads it before you so that you may see it. If clouds cover you, then complete the number." This narration is authentic.
