حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ مَالِكٌ فِي الَّذِي يَرَى هِلالَ رَمَضَانَ وَحْدَهُ : " أَنَّهُ يَصُومُ لأَنَّهُ لا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ ، وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، وَمَنْ رَأَى هِلالَ شَوَّالٍ وَحْدَهُ فَلا يُفْطِرُ ، لأَنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَّهِمُونَ عَلَى أَنْ يُفْطِرَ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ لَيْسَ مَأْمُونًا ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أُولَئِكَ إِذَا ظَهَرَ عَلَيْهِمْ : قَدْ رَأَيْنَا الْهِلالَ " .
Imam Malik narrates: "Whoever alone sees the crescent of Ramadan, he should fast, because it is not right for him not to fast, as he knows that this day is part of Ramadan. Whoever alone sees the crescent of Shawwal, he should not break the fast, because people will accuse him of not fasting, as among them are some who are not trustworthy. Then he should mention this matter when the crescent becomes apparent to the people and they say: We have seen the crescent."
