بَابُ الشَّهَادَةِ عَلَى رُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِChapter on testimony for sighting the crescent

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، نا الرَّبِيعُ ، قَالَ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ : " مَنْ رَأَى هِلالَ رَمَضَانَ وَحْدَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ ، وَمَنْ رَأَى هِلالَ شَوَّالٍ وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُفْطِرْ ، وَلْيُخْفِ ذَلِكَ " .
Imam Shafi'i says: "Whoever alone sights the crescent of Ramadan, then he should fast on that day, and whoever alone sights the crescent of Shawwal, he should not fast on that day and should keep this matter concealed (but others will not fast or refrain from fasting based on his testimony)."
