حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ ، قَالا : ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ ، وَالْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، قَالُوا : ثنا رَوْحٌ ، قَالا : نا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَانَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ بِخَانِقِينَ : " إِنَّ الأَهِلَّةَ بَعْضُهَا أَعْظَمُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلالَ مِنْ أَوَّلِ النَّهَارِ فَلا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى يَشْهَدَ شَاهِدَانِ أَنَّهُمَا رَأَيَاهُ بِالأَمْسِ " .
Abu Wa'il narrates: A letter from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us (at the place of Khanqin), in which it was written: "The crescent of the first (of the month) sometimes appears small or large, so when you see the moon in the early part of the day, do not celebrate Eid until two men testify that they saw this moon the previous night."
