Rabi‘ reports from a Companion: Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was fasting, and it was the thirtieth day of Ramadan. Two villagers came and both testified that there is no god but Allah, and they informed that they had seen the new moon the previous night. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered the people to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. This hadith is authentic.
