بَابُ الْغَنِيِّ الَّذِي يُحْرَمُ السُّؤَالَChapter on the wealthy who are forbidden from asking

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ ، ثنا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ سَأَلَ مَسْأَلَةً عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى اسْتَكْثَرَ بِهَا مِنْ رَضْفِ جَهَنَّمَ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَمَا ظَهْرُ الْغِنَى ، قَالَ : " عَشَاءُ لَيْلَةٍ " . عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ مَتْرُوكٌ.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever asks (begs) despite being well-off, he increases the punishment of Hell for himself through this act." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by being well-off?" He (peace be upon him) replied: "Having food for the night." The narrator named Umar bin Khalid is abandoned.
