Ibrahim al-Nakha'i narrates: The wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him about her necklace, which was of twenty mithqal and made of gold. The woman asked: "Should I pay zakat on it?" Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Yes!" The woman asked: "How much?" So Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Five dirhams." The woman asked: "Can I give it to such-and-such person?" She was asking about her nephew, who was an orphan and under her care, so Abdullah said: "If you wish, you may do so."
