Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he was asked, “What have you been commanded to do?” He replied: “I have been commanded to take one tabi‘ or tabi‘ah from every thirty cows, and one musinnah from every forty cows.” He was asked: “Have you been given any command regarding awqas?” He replied: “No! I will ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this.” When he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: “No! (i.e., nothing is obligatory in this regard).” The narrator states: This refers to the animal that is between two years, and by these words it is meant that nothing will be taken from it.
