حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، نا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ السَّفَرَ جَهْدٌ وَثِقَلٌ ، فَإِذَا أَوْتَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَإِنِ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَإِلا كَانَتَا لَهُ " .
The freed slave of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: We were accompanying the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on a journey. He said: "Travel is a cause of distress and fatigue, so when a person has performed Witr, he should then perform two rak‘ahs. If he wakes up (before Fajr), then fine; otherwise, these two rak‘ahs will suffice for him."
