الْوِتْرُ بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ بِثَلَاثٍ أَوْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ أَوْ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ خَمْسٍWitr with five, three, one, or more than five rak'ahs

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَنْجَابَ الطَّيِّبِيُّ ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمِهْرَانِيُّ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْوُحَاظِيُّ ، نا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِكُمْ أُوتِرُ ؟ قَالَ : " بِوَاحِدَةٍ " ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : " فَبِثَلاثٍ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " بِخَمْسٍ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " بِسَبْعٍ " ، قَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ : فَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ قَبِلْتُ رُخْصَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! How many rak‘ahs of Witr should I perform?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "One." I said, "O Prophet of Allah! I have the strength for more than that." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then three." Then he said, "Five." Then he said, "Seven." Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I wish I had accepted the concession granted by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time.
