الْوِتْرُ بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ بِثَلَاثٍ أَوْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ أَوْ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ خَمْسٍWitr with five, three, one, or more than five rak'ahs

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْوَرَّاقُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الأَزْرَقُ ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ وَاجِبٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِثَلاثٍ فَلْيُوتِرْ ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَلْيُوتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ " . قَوْلُهُ : " وَاجِبٌ " ، لَيْسَ بِمَحْفُوظٍ ، لا أَعْلَمُ تَابَعَ ابْنَ حَسَّانَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Witr is a right and an obligation. Whoever wishes to perform three witr, let him perform three; whoever wishes to perform one, let him perform one rak'ah of witr." Imam Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) states: The word 'obligation' in this narration is not preserved, and I do not know of anyone who has corroborated Ibn Hassan in this regard.
