بَابُ صِفَةِ السَّهْوِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَأَحْكَامِهِ وَاخْتِلَافِ الرِّوَايَاتِ فِي ذَلِكَ وَأَنَّهُ لَا يَقْطَعُ الصَّلَاةَ شَيْءٌ يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِChapter on the description of forgetfulness in prayer, its rulings, differences in narrations, and that nothing passing in front of one praying invalidates the prayer

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الأَبْرَشُ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، ذَكَرَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِ الصَّلاةِ فَأَتَى عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَلا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقُلْنَا : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا شَكَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي النُّقْصَانِ فَلْيُصَلِّ حَتَّى يَكُونَ الشَّكُّ فِي الزِّيَادَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once I was discussing an issue of prayer with Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), when Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) also came to us. He said: Shall I narrate to you the hadith which I heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)? We said: Yes. So he said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a person has doubt about any deficiency in his prayer, he should perform as much prayer until his doubt becomes about having added (to the prayer)."
