Chapter: The saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The imam is appointed to be followed."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْوَزَّانُ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ عَوْنٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَكْفِيكَ قِرَاءَةُ الإِمَامِ خَافَتَ أَوْ قَرَأَ " . قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى : قُلْتُ : لأَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ : فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ هَذَا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : هَكَذَا مُنْكَرٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The recitation of the Imam is sufficient for you, whether he recites in a low voice or in a loud voice." The narrator named Abu Musa states: I asked Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal about this narration regarding the recitation transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, so he said: "This narration is munkar (denounced)."
