Chapter: The saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The imam is appointed to be followed."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا التَّمَّارُ ، ثنا أَبُو مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ عَوْنٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تَكْفِيكَ قِرَاءَةُ الإِمَامِ خَافَتَ أَوْ جَهَرَ " . عَاصِمٌ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ ، وَرَفْعُهُ وَهْمٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The recitation of the Imam will suffice for you, whether he recites in a low voice or in a loud voice." The narrator of this narration, Asim, is not reliable. Narrating this report as a marfu' hadith is an error.
