Chapter: The saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The imam is appointed to be followed."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ ، قَالا : نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الأَشْهَلِيُّ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا الإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا ، وَإِذَا قَرَأَ فَأَنْصِتُوا " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : كَانَ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ يَقُولُ : هُوَ ثِقَةٌ ، يَعْنِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam has been appointed so that he may be followed; when he says the takbir, you should also say the takbir, and when he recites (the Qur'an), you should remain silent." Imam Abu Abdur Rahman has narrated this. Makhrami says, this person is trustworthy, meaning the narrator named Muhammad bin Sa'd is (trustworthy).
