Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates with his chain of transmission the statement of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. During the prayer, a man behind him began to recite (Qur'an). One of the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped him. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, the two began to argue. The first man said, "Are you stopping me from reciting (Qur'an) behind the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" A dispute arose between the two. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became aware of this, he said: "Whoever performs prayer behind the Imam, the recitation of the Imam is considered his recitation." This narration has been reported by Imam Layth bin Sa'd from Imam Abu Yusuf, from Imam Abu Hanifa.
