حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ، ثنا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ وَاصِلٍ ، ثنا خَلادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ ، ثنا أَسْبَاطُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ السَّبْعِ الْمَثَانِي ، فَقَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّمَا هِيَ سِتُّ آيَاتٍ ، فَقَالَ : " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 ، آيَةٌ " .
Abdu Khair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: It was asked from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) about "Sab‘ al-Mathani" (the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses), so he replied: "Alhamdulillah (Surah Al-Fatiha)." It was said to him: "These are six verses." He replied: "Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem is also one verse."
