حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الدَّقِيقِيُّ ، نا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ ، إِلا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَيْلَةٌ ثَالِثَةٌ أَوْ رَابِعَةٌ - شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ - " ، وَرَوَاهُ هُشَيْمٌ ، وَرَقَبَةُ ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ ، وَقَالُوا : " لَيْلَةٌ ثَالِثَةٌ " وَلَمْ يَذْكُرُوا : بَشِيرًا.
This same narration is also transmitted with another chain regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), however, in it are the words: (the narrator is in doubt) the crescent of the third night or the crescent of the fourth night (would set). Some other narrators have also transmitted it on the authority of Sayyiduna Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him), and in it, they have narrated the words, "the crescent of the third night."
