Hadith 3189
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the selling and gifting of wala (the right of inheritance due to manumission).
Hadith 3190
With this chain as well, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the same manner as translated above.
Hadith 3191
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: Wala’ (the right of inheritance from a freed slave) can neither be sold nor gifted, and Wala’ belongs to the one who set (the slave) free.
Hadith 3192
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is a bond of wala’ (allegiance) similar to the bond of lineage; it can neither be sold nor gifted.
Hadith 3193
حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِم، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ: "أنهما كرها بيع الولاء".
Qatadah (bin Di‘amah) said: Hasan and Sa‘id bin al-Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on them, disliked the selling of wala’ (i.e., considered it reprehensible).
Hadith 3194
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Wala’ cannot be sold. Can a man’s neck be consumed twice?
