It is narrated from Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said regarding a daughter and a granddaughter: Half (is for the daughter) and one-sixth (is for the granddaughter), and whatever remains should be returned to the daughter.
Hadith 2979
It is narrated from Alqamah that a case regarding paternal brothers and the mother was brought to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Hadith 2980
Hasan (bin Salih bin Muslim) narrated from his father that he asked Imam Amir al-Sha'bi, may Allah have mercy on him: A man died and left his daughter, and no other heir is known? He said: All the wealth will go to the daughter.
Hadith 2981
It is narrated from Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) would not return the remainder of the inheritance to the paternal brother along with the mother, nor would he return the remainder of the wealth to the grandmother when there was a rightful heir present with her, nor would he return the remainder to the granddaughter when the real daughter was present, nor would he return it to the wife or husband. And Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would return the remainder to every rightful heir except the wife and husband.
Hadith 2982

And this narration has also been reported by Yazid bin Harun from Muhammad bin Salim, from Sha'bi, and from Kharijah (bin Zaid).
