Hadith 2965
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In Islam, the first grandmother who was given a share of inheritance was the father's mother, and her son was alive.
Hadith 2966
It is narrated from Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the grandmother one-sixth (a sixth share).
Hadith 2967
It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made the grandmother an heir along with her son.
Hadith 2968
Ibrahim bin Maisarah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gave one-sixth (sudus) to three grandmothers (or maternal grandmothers). Mansur bin Mu'tamir said: I asked Ibrahim: Which grandmothers are they? He said: Two grandmothers from the father's side (i.e., paternal grandmothers) and one grandmother from the mother's side (i.e., maternal grandmother).
Hadith 2969
Ibrahim bin Maisarah said: Al-Hasan (al-Basri), may Allah have mercy on him, informed me that the grandmother will inherit in the presence of her son.
Hadith 2970
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: "لَا تَرِثُ أُمُّ أَبِ الْأُمِّ، ابْنُهَا الَّذِي تُدْلِي بِهِ لَا يَرِثُ، فَكَيْفَ تَرِثُ هِيَ ؟".
Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The mother of the father’s mother will not inherit; if her son, who is closer (to the deceased), does not become an heir, then how can she herself become an heir?
Hadith 2971
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The grandmother (paternal) will inherit in the case that her son is alive.
