Hadith 2951
When Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was in Basra, he wrote to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have been asked about the issue of a grandfather and six brothers. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote in reply that give the grandfather one-sixth (sudus), and after that do not give anything to anyone.
(That is, one-sixth is for the grandfather, and the remaining five-sixths are for the brothers.)
Hadith 2952
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل، عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ فِي سِتَّةِ إِخْوَةٍ وَجَدٍّ، قَالَ: "أَعْطِ الْجَدَّ السُّدُسَ . قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد: كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي: عَلِيًّا رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ الشَّعْبِيُّ يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ.
It is narrated from Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the inheritance of six brothers and a grandfather that the grandfather should be given one-sixth (the sixth part).
Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: That is, Sha'bi used to narrate the statement of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 2953
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salamah (al-Muradi) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the grandfather the share of a brother when he was the sixth person.
Hadith 2954
It is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to include the grandfather with the brothers and give him one-sixth (sudus) of the share.
Hadith 2955
Abdullah bin Salamah (al-Muradi) said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to include the grandfather and brothers in inheritance until the grandfather would become the sixth person remaining.

إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: كَانَ
عَلِيٌّ "يُشَرِّكُ الْجَدَّ إِلَى سِتَّةٍ مَعَ الْإِخْوَةِ، يُعْطِي كُلَّ صَاحِبِ فَرِيضَةٍ فَرِيضَتَهُ، وَلَا يُوَرِّثُ أَخًا لِأُمٍّ مَعَ جَدٍّ، وَلَا أُخْتًا لِأُمٍّ، وَلَا يَزِيدُ الْجَدَّ مَعَ الْوَلَدِ عَلَى السُّدُسِ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ غَيْرُهُ، وَلَا يُقَاسِمُ بِأَخٍ لِأَبٍ مَعَ أَخٍ لِأَبٍ وَأُمٍّ، وَإِذَا كَانَتْ أُخْتٌ لِأَبٍ وَأُمٍّ، وَأَخٌ لِأَبٍ، أَعْطَى الْأُخْتَ النِّصْفَ، وَالنِّصْفَ الْآخَرَ بَيْنَ الْجَدِّ وَالْأَخِ نِصْفَيْنِ، وَإِذَا كَانُوا إِخْوَةً وَأَخَوَاتٍ، شَرَّكَهُمْ مَعَ الْجَدِّ إِلَى السُّدُسِ.
Ibrahim said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to include brothers with the grandfather, making them six, and would give each one a share. He would not give anything from the inheritance to maternal brothers and sisters along with the grandfather, and he would not give the grandfather more than one-sixth in the presence of children, except if there was someone other than the child. If there was a full brother along with a maternal brother, he would not give anything to the maternal brother. And if there was a full sister and a paternal brother, he would give half to the sister, and the remaining half would be divided equally between the paternal brother and the grandfather. And if among the heirs there were brothers and sisters, he would include the grandfather with them with one-sixth (of the share).
