Chapter on the grandfather
Hadith 2933
أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ: أَنَّ عُمَرَ"كَانَ كَتَبَ مِيرَاثَ الْجَدِّ، حَتَّى إِذَا طُعِنَ دَعَا بِهِ فَمَحَاهُ، ثُمّ قَالَ: سَتَرَوْنَ رَأْيَكُمْ فِيهِ".
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote regarding the inheritance of the grandfather, but when he was wounded by a spear, he had what was written brought to him and erased it, and said: You people should use your own judgment in this matter.
Hadith 2934
أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ، أنبأنا أَشْعَثُ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَبِيدَةَ: حَدِّثْنِي عَنِ الْجَدِّ، فَقَالَ: "إِنِّي لَأَحْفَظُ فِي الْجَدِّ ثَمَانِينَ قَضِيَّةً مُخْتَلِفَةً".
Muhammad bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I said to Ubaidah, "Tell me about the grandfather." He replied, "I remember eighty different issues regarding the grandfather."
Hadith 2935
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ فَرِيضَة، فَقَالَ: "إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا جَدٌّ، فَهَاتِهَا".
Abdullah bin Amr Kharfi said: A man came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked about (the obligation of) inheritance, so he said: If there is no mention of the grandfather in it, then ask.
Hadith 2936
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ فَرِيضَةٍ، فَقَالَ: "إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا جَدٌّ، فَهَاتِهَا".
A man from Murad heard Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, saying: Whoever likes to let the germs of Hell enter him, let him give a verdict in the matter of grandfather and brothers.
