Hadith 2899
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was with us on any path, we found it easy. He said regarding the share of the husband and the parents that the husband will get half and the mother will get one third of the remaining wealth.
Hadith 2900
Yazid al-Rashk said: I asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on him: If a man leaves behind his wife and parents (how will the inheritance be divided?) He said: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, divided it into four parts.
Hadith 2901
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the issue of wife and parents: The wife will receive one-fourth (a quarter) and the mother will receive one-third of what remains.
Hadith 2902
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The wife's share will be a quarter out of four, and for the mother, a third (one third) of what remains out of four, and the father's share will be two parts (i.e., two thirds).
Hadith 2903
Umar bin Saeed asked Harith Al-A'war about the inheritance of a wife and parents, so he narrated the (aforementioned) ruling of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 2904
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said about the woman who leaves behind her husband and parents: the husband will receive half, and the mother will receive one third of what remains.
Hadith 2905
It is narrated from ‘Amir al-Sha‘bi that Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the inheritance rights of the wife and parents: The wife gets one-fourth of the total wealth, and the mother gets one-third of what remains after the wife’s share; whatever is left after that is the father’s share. (That is: the wife gets 1, the mother gets 1, and the father gets 2 «كما مر آنفا»)
Hadith 2906
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whenever Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went in any direction and we followed him, we found the matter to be easy. He made a decision regarding the inheritance of a wife and parents that the issue would be from four: one-fourth to the wife, one-third (of what remains) to the mother, and the remainder, which is two parts, would be for the father.
Hadith 2907
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) through this chain with similar wording as previously mentioned.
Hadith 2908
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: May Allah not show me the day that I give preference to the mother over the father.
Hadith 2909
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا
سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا
شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ
الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ
عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ:
"أَرْسَلَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ: أَتَجِدُ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ لِلْأُمِّ ثُلُثُ مَا بَقِي ؟ فَقَالَ زَيْدٌ: إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ رَجُلٌ تَقُولُ بِرَأْيِكَ، وَأَنَا رَجُلٌ أَقُولُ بِرَأْيِي".
Ikrimah said: Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sent a message to Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) asking, "Do you give the mother one-third of what remains in Allah's Book (the Noble Qur'an)?" Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "You are a man who gives a verdict on this matter according to your opinion, and I am also a man who gives a verdict according to my opinion."
Hadith 2910
Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) both said regarding the issue of the husband along with the parents: The husband gets half, and the mother gets one third of the entire wealth, and whatever remains is for the father.
Hadith 2911
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said (regarding this issue): The mother gets one third of the entire wealth, whether the parents are with the wife or the parents are with the husband.
That is: In this matter, he supported Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 2912
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In the matter of wife and parents, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) opposed the people of the Qiblah because he allotted one third of the entire wealth to the mother.
