Hadith 2718
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed a companion that “when he reaches his bed, he should recite this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِيْ ...... Translation: O Allah! I have surrendered my soul to You, and I have turned my face towards You, and I have entrusted my affairs to You. I have relied upon You in hope of Your reward and in fear of Your punishment. There is no refuge and no escape except with You. I believe in the Book which You have revealed and in the Prophet whom You have sent. Then, if he dies that night, he will die upon the natural disposition (fitrah).”
Hadith 2719
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you lies down on his bed, he should shake out his bed with the edge of his lower garment, for he does not know what may have come onto it in his absence. Then he should recite this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ بِكَ وَضَعْتُ . . . . . . O Allah! In Your name I have laid down my side (on the bed), and in Your name I will rise. If You take my soul, then forgive it, and if You release it (keep me alive), then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants."
