Chapter: The People of Qurayza Submitting to Sa’d ibn Mu’adh’s Judgment

1 hadith
Hadith 2545
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: During the Battle of Ahzab, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was struck by an arrow and his vein (called abjal) was cut, which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cauterized with fire. His hand swelled and began to bleed again, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cauterized it again, and then the hand swelled. When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) saw this condition (and became certain of death), he said: “O Allah, do not take my soul until my eyes are cooled by (seeing) the fate of Banu Qurayzah (i.e., until I witness their destruction by Your will).” His vein stopped (bleeding) and not a single drop of blood dripped from it until Banu Qurayzah surrendered to the judgment of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) (i.e., they laid down their arms). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) (i.e., he called him, and he came), and Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the verdict: Their men should be killed and their women kept alive so that the Muslims may benefit from them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You have judged concerning them with Allah’s judgment.” At that time, Banu Qurayzah numbered four hundred individuals. When their execution was completed, then Sayyiduna Sa’d’s (may Allah be pleased with him) vein opened and he passed away.
