باب مَا أَصَابَ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ في مَغَازِيهِمْ مِنَ الشِّدَّةِ:
Chapter: Hardships Faced by the Prophet’s Companions in Battles
Hadith 2452
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، قَالَ: "كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلا هذَا السَّمُرُ، وَوَرَقُ الْحُبْلَةِ، حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ، مَالَهُ خِلْطٌ، ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ بَنُو أَسَدٍ تُعَزِّرُنِي ! لَقَدْ خِبْتُ إِذَنْ وَضَلَّ عَمَلِيَهْ".
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to participate in battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time we had nothing to eat except the leaves of trees. Because of this, our excrement became like that of goats, i.e., not mixed together (it would come out in pellets like goat droppings). But now the people of Banu Asad find faults in me. If this is the case, then I am indeed deprived and unfortunate, and all my good deeds have been wasted. (Samar and waraqul-hablah refer to the leaves of certain trees.)
