It is narrated from Sayyida Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) that a companion came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I married a woman and I also had another wife, so the first wife said that I have suckled this new bride once or twice. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Prohibition is not established by suckling once or twice."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The command was revealed in the Holy Qur'an that prohibition (of marriage) is established by ten instances of breastfeeding, then this command was abrogated by (the command of) five instances of breastfeeding. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and at that time the known number of five was being recited in the Qur'an.
