Chapter: Accepting the Wedding Invitation
Hadith 2242
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى وَلِيمَةٍ، فَلْيُجِبْ" . قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يُجِيبَ وَلَيْسَ الْأَكْلُ عَلَيْهِ بِوَاجِبٍ.
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you is invited to a wedding feast, he should accept the invitation" (that is, he must go to it). Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He should accept the invitation, but eating the food is not obligatory for him.
