Hadith 2232
It is narrated from Rabi’ bin Sabrah that his father (Sayyiduna Sabrah, may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith that he was going for the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Contract mut‘ah with these women,” and according to us, mut‘ah meant marriage. We presented this matter to some women, but they refused to marry us without a specified period. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Specify a period.” So I and my cousin set out, each with his own sheet; my cousin’s sheet was better than mine, but I was a more handsome young man than him. We both reached a woman; she liked my youth and my cousin’s sheet. She said: ‘A sheet is a sheet’ (thus she chose Sabrah), and we agreed on a period of ten days between us. I spent that night with her. In the morning, I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was standing between the Black Stone and the door of the Ka‘bah, and he said: “O people! I had permitted you to contract mut‘ah with women, but beware! Allah the Exalted has forbidden it until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever has any of those mut‘ah women with him, let him leave her, and do not take back anything you have given them.”
Hadith 2233
It is narrated from Rabi' bin Sabrah al-Juhani, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade temporary marriage (Nikah Mut'ah) at the time of the conquest of Makkah.
Hadith 2234
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade temporary marriage with women and the eating of domesticated donkey meat in the year of Khaybar.
