Chapter: Drinking from a Silvered Vessel
Hadith 2166
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "الَّذِي يَشْرَبُ فِي آنِيَةٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، فَإِنَّمَا يُجَرْجِرُ فِي بَطْنِهِ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ".
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks anything from a silver vessel is kindling the fire of Hell in his belly."
Hadith 2167
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ إِلَى الْمَدَائِنِ فَاسْتَسْقَى، فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، فَرَمَى بِهِ وَجْهَهُ، فَقُلْنَا: اسْكُتُوا، فَإِنَّا إِنْ سَأَلْنَاهُ لَمْ يُحَدِّثْنَا، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدُ، قَالَ: أَتَدْرُونَ لِمَ رَمَيْتُهُ ؟ قُلْنَا: لَا، قَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُهُ، وَذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ، وَقَالَ: "هُمَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ".
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila said: We set out with Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) towards Mada’in Salih. On the way, he asked for water. A villager brought water in a silver vessel. Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) threw it away. We said among ourselves: Remain silent, if we ask him the reason, he will not tell us. After a while, he himself said: Do you know why I threw away that water? We replied: No, we do not know. He said: I had forbidden that person and informed him that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking from gold and silver vessels and wearing silk and brocade, and said that these things are for them (the disbelievers) in this world and for us in the Hereafter.
