باب في أَكْلِ الضَّبِّ:
Chapter: Eating the Dabb Lizard
Hadith 2054
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الضَّبِّ، فَقَالَ: "لَسْتُ بِآكِلِهِ وَلَا مُحَرِّمِهِ".
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the lizard, so he (peace be upon him) said: "I neither eat it nor declare it unlawful."
Hadith 2055
أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدِيعَةَ، قَالَ: أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضَبٍّ، فَقَالَ: "أُمَّةٌ مُسِخَتْ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ".
Sayyiduna Thabit bin Wadi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A lizard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: “There was a community that was transformed; Allah knows best (who they were).”
Hadith 2056
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ سَيْفُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ خَالَتُهُ وَخَالَةُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَوَجَدَ عِنْدَهَا ضَبًّا مَحْنُوذًا قَدِمَتْ بِهِ أُخْتُهَا حُفَيْدَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ مِنْ نَجْدٍ، فَقَدَّمَتْ الضَّبَّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَ قَلَّمَا يُقَدِّمُ يَدَهُ لِطَعَامٍ حَتَّى يُحَدَّثَ بِهِ وَيُسَمَّى لَهُ، فَأَهْوَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ إِلَى الضَّبِّ، فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ نِسْوَةِ الْحُضُورِ: أَخْبِرْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا قَدَّمْتُنَّ لَهُ . قُلْنَ: هَذَا الضَّبُّ، فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ، فَقَالَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ: أَتُحَرِّمُ الضَّبَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: "لَا، وَلَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ بِأَرْضِ قَوْمِي، فَأَجِدُنِي أَعَافُهُ" . قَالَ خَالِدٌ: فَاجْتَرَرْتُهُ فَأَكَلْتُهُ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْظُرُ، فَلَمْ يَنْهَنِي.
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that Sayyiduna Khalid bin Al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), who is famous by the title "Saifullah" (the Sword of Allah), informed that he entered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) into the house of Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Umm al-Mu’minin was the maternal aunt of both him and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). There was roasted dhab (monitor lizard) present there, which her sister Sayyidah Hafidah bint Al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) had brought from Najd. She presented that roasted dhab to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was very rare that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would extend his hand towards any food until it was told to him what kind of food it was. But that day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his hand towards the roasted dhab. Meanwhile, one of the women present there said: "Inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about what you have presented before him." They said: "It is dhab." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand from the roasted lizard. Sayyiduna Khalid bin Al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you declare it unlawful?" He replied: "No, but since it is not found in my land, my nature does not incline towards it." Sayyiduna Khalid bin Al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "So I drew it towards myself and ate it (well), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching, and he did not forbid me."
