Chapter: Hajj on Behalf of the Deceased
Hadith 1874
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ مَوْلًى لِآلِ الْزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَهُ الْإِسْلَامُ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ رُكُوبَ الرَّحْلِ، وَالْحَجُّ مَكْتُوبٌ عَلَيْهِ، أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ ؟ قَالَ: "أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ وَلَدِهِ ؟". قَالَ: نَعَمْ . قَالَ: "أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ، أَكَانَ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ ؟". قَالَ: نَعَمْ . قَالَ: "فَاحْجُجْ عَنْهُ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man from Khath'am came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My father has embraced Islam. He is very old and unable to ride, and Hajj is obligatory upon him. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He (the Prophet) said, "Are you his eldest son?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Tell me, if your father had a debt and you paid it off, would your father's debt be considered paid?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Then perform Hajj on his behalf as well."
Hadith 1875
أَخْبَرَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ مَوْلَى ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: يُوسُفُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَوْ الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ، قَالَتْ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَحُجَّ . قَالَ: "أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ، قُبِلَ مِنْهُ ؟". قَالَ: نَعَمْ . قَالَ: "اللَّهُ أَرْحَمُ، حُجَّ عَنْ أَبِيكَ".
Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My father is very old and cannot perform Hajj. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Tell me, if your father had a debt and you paid off that debt for him, would it be accepted from him?” He replied: Yes. The Prophet said: “Then Allah, the Exalted, is Most Merciful, so perform Hajj on behalf of your father.” That is, Allah, by His mercy, will accept this Hajj performed on behalf of your father.
