Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people should avoid continuous fasting (wisal)." The people said: "But you observe wisal?" He replied: "I am not like you; during the night my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not observe continuous fasting (wisal)." It was asked: "But you do so?" He replied: "I am not like any of you; I am given food and drink."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Do not observe continuous fasting without breaking the fast or taking suhoor. However, if someone insists on doing so, he may observe continuous fasting until the time of suhoor." The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "But you observe continuous fasting." He replied: "I spend the night in such a state that One who feeds and gives me drink provides for me."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting (fasting for several days without breaking the fast at iftar or suhoor). Upon this, one of the Muslims said: O Messenger of Allah! But you observe continuous fasting? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am not like you; my Lord feeds me and gives me drink during the night." Even then, when the people did not refrain from continuous fasting, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting with them for two days, then the moon of Eid appeared. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If the moon had not appeared, I would have continued fasting for more days," as if, when the companions did not refrain from continuous fasting, the Prophet said this as a punishment.
