Hadith 1716
Sayyiduna Qabeesah bin Muhariq Hilali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I became a guarantor for someone, so I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (for help). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Qabeesah! Wait, when the charity wealth comes to us, we will order for you." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Qabeesah! Asking (begging) is only permissible for one of three people: The one upon whom the burden of guarantee has fallen and he is unable to pay it, so it is permissible for him to ask until he becomes free from the guarantee, then he should refrain from asking; the second is the person who is struck by a calamity or disaster that destroys his wealth, it is permissible for him to ask until he acquires enough to suffice for his livelihood; the third is the man who is overtaken by hunger and three wise men from his people testify that so-and-so is in severe hunger, it is also permissible for him to ask until he gets what is sufficient for his livelihood, then he should refrain from asking. O Qabeesah! Other than these three cases, asking is forbidden, and whoever eats by asking is eating unlawful wealth."
