باب الصَّلاَةِ عِنْدَ الْكُسُوفِ:
Chapter: Prayer at the time of eclipse
Hadith 1564
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَيْسَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنْ النَّاسِ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا، فَقُومُوا، فَصَلُّوا".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are not eclipsed because of anyone's death; they are two signs among the signs of Allah. Therefore, when you see this, stand up and pray."
Hadith 1565
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَدِينِيُّ، وَمُسَدَّدٌ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "صَلَّى فِي كُسُوفٍ ثَمَانَ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي أَرْبَعِ سَجَدَاتٍ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed eight bowings (ruku) and four prostrations (sajdah) in the prayer of eclipse (Salat al-Kusuf).
Hadith 1566
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , أَنَّ يَهُودِيَّةً دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَتْ: أَعَاذَكِ اللَّهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلَتْهُ: أَيُعَذَّبُ النَّاسُ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ؟ قَالَ: "عَائِذًا بِاللَّهِ". قَالَتْ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ"رَكِبَ يَوْمًا مَرْكَبًا فَخَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَزَلَ، ثُمَّ عَمِدَ إِلَى مَقَامِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ، قَامَ النَّاسُ خَلْفَهُ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ، وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الْأَوَّلِ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ، وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ تَجَلَّتْ الشَّمْسُ" . فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ: "إِنِّي أُرَاكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي قُبُورِكُمْ كَفِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ" . سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: "اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ" ..
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a Jewish woman came to her and said, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." Then when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, I asked, "Will people be punished in their graves?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) sought refuge with Allah from this. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was seated on his mount and the sun was eclipsed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) came, dismounted, and reached the place where he led the prayer. The people also stood behind him, and he (peace be upon him) stood for a long time in prayer, then bowed (ruku‘) and remained in ruku‘ for a long time. Then, after rising from ruku‘, he again stood for a long time, though a little less than the first standing. Then he bowed again and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but less than the first ruku‘. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed two prostrations, then stood up and prayed the second rak‘ah in the same manner. Then the sun became clear. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to me and said: "I see that you will be subjected to trials in your graves like the trial of the Dajjal." I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave. O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the punishment of Hell."
Hadith 1567
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ يُوسُفُ الْبُوَيْطِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ هُوَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: خَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَحَكَى ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: أَنَّ صَلَاتَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَهُمْ، فَقَالَ: "إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ، وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ، فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ".
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: There was a solar eclipse, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak‘ahs of prayer. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that in each rak‘ah he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two bowings (ruku‘). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: “Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah (of His power); they do not lose their light (i.e., an eclipse does not occur) due to anyone’s death or life. Therefore, when you see such (an eclipse), hasten towards prayer.”
Hadith 1568
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, has also narrated in the same manner from «هشام بن عروه عن ابيه عن سيده عائشه رضي الله عنها».
Hadith 1569
قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: "خَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَحَكَتْ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ".
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: There was a solar eclipse, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer. She reported that he (peace be upon him) performed two units of prayer, and in each unit, he bowed twice.
Hadith 1570
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمُنْذِرِ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "أَمَرَ حِينَ كَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ بِعَتَاقَةٍ" .
It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the sun was eclipsed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered charity to be given.
Hadith 1571
قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَة، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، نَحْوَهُ.
From another chain of narration as well, Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same manner.
