Hadith 1544
Ya’la bin Umayyah said: I said to Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), “Allah Almighty has said: «أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ ...» [نساء: 101/4] meaning, if you fear harm from the disbelievers, then there is no blame upon you for shortening the prayer. Now, security has been established.” Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I was amazed at what you are amazed at, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘This is a charity which Allah has given to you, so accept His charity.’”

Salim narrated from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), Abu Bakr, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) at Mina (the Zuhr and Asr prayers shortened) two rak‘ahs each. I also prayed two rak‘ahs with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) at the beginning of his caliphate, but later he started offering the full prayer.
Hadith 1546
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We offered four rak‘ahs of Zuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, and at Dhul-Hulaifah he offered two rak‘ahs (qasr) of ‘Asr.
Hadith 1547
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four rak'ahs of Zuhr prayer in Madinah and two rak'ahs of Asr prayer at Dhul-Hulaifah (while going to Makkah).
Hadith 1548
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the prayer was first made obligatory, it was two rak‘ahs, which remained the same during travel, and was increased during residence (i.e., when not traveling). (Imam Zuhri said to Urwah): Then why did Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) perform the full prayer during travel? He said: She held the same opinion as that of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
