Hadith 1472
Abu Ishaq said: I heard Aswad bin Yazid and Masruq, they testified that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) testified that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter her house, he would definitely pray two rak‘ahs. Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: What she meant were the two rak‘ahs after the ‘Asr prayer.
Hadith 1473
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never omitted the two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr.
Hadith 1474
It is narrated from Kuraib (the freed slave of Ibn Abbas) that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Al-Azhar, and Sayyiduna Saud bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with them) sent him to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Convey our greetings to her and ask her about the two rak‘ahs after the Asr prayer, and say that we have been informed that you also perform these rak‘ahs, even though we have received the hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade praying after the Asr prayer. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: And I used to beat people with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) for praying after Asr. Kuraib said: I went to the service of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and conveyed their message to her, so she said: Go and ask Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). So I returned to them and told them Sayyidah Aisha’s reply, then they sent me to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) with the same message that I had taken to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to forbid it, but one day I saw him praying two rak‘ahs after Asr. When he prayed these two rak‘ahs, he had performed the Asr prayer and then came to me, and at that time some women from the Ansar tribe of Banu Haram were sitting with me. When he prayed these two rak‘ahs, I said to the slave girl: Go and stand by him and say that Umm Salamah says: O Messenger of Allah! I have heard you forbidding them, so what do I see that you are praying them yourself? If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gestures with his hand, then wait a little. So the slave girl did so, and when he gestured with his hand, she stepped back and waited. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he said: “O daughter of Abu Umayyah! Did you ask me about the two rak‘ahs after Asr? The matter is that some people from ‘Abd al-Qays came to me to accept Islam, and in talking with them I was unable to pray the two rak‘ahs after Dhuhr, so these are those two rak‘ahs.” Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: What is your opinion about this hadith? He said: My opinion is the same as is clear from the hadith of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): «لا صلاة بعد العصر حتى تغرب الشمس ولا بعد الفجر حتى تطلع الشمس» – For translation, see: No. (1471).
